Visit to local quilt shop: Jackman's Fabrics

This weekend I went to Jackman's Fabrics in Saint Louis, Missouri. When I go out of town, I love going to fabric stores! Supporting local, small-business fabric stores is important. These stores also have quality materials. Jackman's is well stocked with a variety of fabrics.

I found some fabric for some ongoing projects and I also got some more fabric for my stash. I purchased some nice black and white prints. I love black and white prints.

Old Singer Machines at the Historic Courthouse in Saint Louis

Today I visited the Historic Courthouse in Saint Louis, Missouri. The Courthouse is a part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial which is a National Park.

The Courthouse was the site of the first two trials of the Dred Scott case in 1847 and 1850. The Courthouse has exhibits regarding the case and Missouri history in general.

So, I saw these two wonderful old singer machines on display. This first machine was in an exhibit about Christmas in the United States from 1850-1900:

This second machine was in an exhibit about early 20th Century history:

Christmas Gift Quilts 2011 (Part 1)

I'm working on two quilts for Christmas. I want to finish them in time, so I'm doing a little work each week. One of the quilts is for a male, sports fan. The masculine aesthetic has been one of my weaknesses, so it's great to work on the project and develop the skill.

I'm using applique circles of the fan's favorite teams:
