Color Wheel Project: Violet March

March is time for violet. I went to my local quilt shop today and picked up some fat quarters with violet.

I was surprised that I picked these out actually. They are what I usually go for, but I think I liked the diamond pattern common to both pieces of fabric.

Next month is Red Violet.

KAH Quilt Class Wrapping Up

For the past two months, I have taught the Keepers at Home ("KAH") quilting class at my church. The girls are almost done:

I enjoyed teaching others how to quilt and learned more about the art myself. When we give we truly get! The girls, their mothers and relatives were all excited about the project. At times the girls got frustrated, but I encouraged them and showed them how to make a quilt step-by-step.

Sometimes we know how to do something, but when we have to teach others that concept we really have to know it well, so we can explain the concept to another. I thought about the quilting process and explained it in ways my students could grasp. Most importantly, I told them they could do it. If we think we cannot do something, we probably won't. If we think we can, we just might.

Crayon Quilt Challenge!

This past weekend, I was at my guild meeting. We're doing a quilt challenge. Everyone in the challenge had to draw 5 different crayons from a bag and use all (and only) those colors in the quilt. My colors are Scarlet, Green Yellow, Robin's Egg Blue, Mauvelous, and Salmon.

The quilts are due June 16, 2012. I'll give you updates as I take on this challenge!
